Bloody Falls Territorial Park
Recognized as a national historic site, Bloody Falls is located on the west side of the Coppermine River on a 7.5-square-kilometre tract of rolling tundra. Northern people used the falls as a nomadic campground for centuries. The area was given its English name when European explorer Samuel Hearne witnessed the massacre of unsuspecting Inuit by the Chipewyan (Dene) Indians in 1771. Remnants of stone winter houses used more than 500 years ago by warriors can be explored. Today Bloody Falls is a popular fishing spot for both locals and visitors.
